1:00 pm
tonight a russian passenger jet overshoots the runway at a moscow airport breaks into pieces and careers into a busy highway we hear from the passers by who became the first rescuers on the scene there are scared what could have gone so badly wrong. hello i'm kevin zero in a very good evening chutes ten pm now here in moscow and our main developing story tonight details still coming in four people have been killed after
1:01 pm
a passenger plane crashed into the side of one of moscow's main highways earlier this evening the jet broke into three parts in the right wing caught fire after it overshot the runway of a new four on board were only eight crew members four survived but they are in a serious condition with head injuries we'll be speaking to artie's maria for national airport shortly for the latest update but it's not difficult of course to imagine the shock of those people who were driving along that major highway close to moscow when a two hundred capacity passenger jet plowed into the side of the road the very first images of the crash appeared on social networks within minutes like this video you're about to see now taken by an eyewitness many of those driving by stopped to give aid to the injured from the crash waiting with them for the emergency services to arrive one of the eyewitnesses we managed to catch up with. was one of the people there that helps immediately at the scene.
1:02 pm
i saw one woman all covered in blood it was the flight attendant christina she said that the plane overshot the runway but they weren't carrying any passengers and that there is another surviving flight attendant there the rescue unit came very fast but the ambulance couldn't get through because of the traffic they were gave the injured flight attendant first aid to our best knowledge called her mother to tell her she's ok wrapped her woman blankets and clothing we could find and even found a car to take her to hospital. another person driving past actually saw the plane breaking apart before rushing to help one of the injured crewmembers his occurred. i was driving along the highway towards moscow when i saw the accident with my own eyes at the end of the runway there's a seventy meter long trench that separates the runway from the more scrutiny of highway so the plane overshot the runway and hit the trench with its nose and the
1:03 pm
news broke off approximately of the place where they have business class and there was one person who dropped out of the plane onto the moscow cute highway and the front wheel also broke off we helped to carry one injured we caught the tanks with the help of the police asked the people to leave it then we put this person in the camp which took him to the hospital well up until now the four had a little history of action and started to tell me more about this particular model of airliner and the company that owns it. this is the first incident involving the triple of two or four blind where people died so the first fatal incident involving this plane only once only on one occasion this plane which was designed back in the eighty's and has been in operation for a little more than a decade only once it's been actual incident two years ago it had a crash landing nobody was killed only a few were minor injuries were reported back then so this is the first time something like this happened it is generally considered considered to be
1:04 pm
a very reliable plane it carries more than two hundred passengers very widely used for charity flights of russian tourists all major holiday destinations the company itself is a charter company called the red wings it's owned by alexander the liberty of russian billionaire who is a very prominent figure trying to run for mayor as office several years ago he also owns several british newspapers. including the evening standard so generally it's been a very good company i've used them couple of times and you know i've never thought they would actually have an incident something like that and their safety record speaks for itself they never had an incident of any kind before so this is the first time they've had anything like that. correspondence of course a small blessing was that there were no passengers on board the plane earlier which can carry when it's fully packed more than two hundred submit a busy holiday season of course aviation safety expert david lamont explained to me earlier why the jet was almost empty. the clue is with the fact that this is
1:05 pm
a charter airline it does a lot of charter work and therefore it had a task a chartered toss to carry people out to the czech republic that it didn't have a task to bring bring them back until probably a later date meanwhile i suspect the airline needed its aircraft back at base to do other work so i think you'll find out find that this was what in the trade is called up positioning flight it was positioning the empty air craft back to its base on the runways long enough the weather wasn't particularly a problem there was some very light snow at the time but at the you know for anybody who operates in the moscow airport at this time of the year that shouldn't be a problem. of course it does reduce the adhesive on the runway the braking efficiency of the airplane but the pilots of course have to and you know it's their job to make allowances if braking action is not very good it when an aircraft goes over the end of the runway like this it's almost always because the aircraft for some
1:06 pm
reason landed too fast which would be a case of misjudgment unless there was a technical reason and we hadn't heard any invention yet or that the true again a misjudgment to suit landed too far down the runway and therefore couldn't stop by the end of it. david lemar there's been we just lost our operations and safety editor from the flight global magazine we just to bring it speed again if you've only just joined us tonight the big story of the day four people have been killed in on this evening off for a plane crashed into the side of one of moscow's main highways four others were injured there all of them are in a serious condition with head injuries tonight the red wings flight from the czech republic overshot the runway at the today's vnukovo airport and plowed into the side of the motorway four thirty five pm local time the planes right wing caught fire immediately after the crash only eight people or than crew members of thought have been on board that stricken plane which can carry more than two hundred
1:07 pm
passengers. the captain is a man with a criminal case has been launched. plenty more you still have a few in this hour including as well the international peace envoy for syria want to the nation will descend into hell unless the opposition and government start talking russia says the rebels preconditions and leading to a dead end we talk about that soon and from putin's return to the kremlin the first public dissent a look at how the changes on russia's political scene in twenty twelve will be remembered by those who cover them here on. by now though to the plane crash earlier on the saving i mentioned our correspondent for not is up for new airport she's been updating us all evening this culture within our beliefs on the line i guess maria can you update us on the condition of the people who survived that crash has there been any more information through in the last hour or two solutions
1:08 pm
to. refresh the you live on r.t. just one if you can hear me are just coming to you now. in. just wonder if you can hear me maria it's kevin no in your live on r.t. a what if you give us an update on the four passengers we were talking about earlier on we were reporting on their condition do you have any updates. yes indeed their condition is very serious and the condition of one of those four victims is set to be critical they're now being treated at different hospitals here in moscow we know that all of them have been very young people and all of them have been flight attendant as for those who died in this incident was far as we know there were eight people on board the to pull it frail line of crashed earlier today in moscow and all of there were crew members and four people died were three man
1:09 pm
the captain the flight mechanic the second pilot and one woman twenty eight year old their hostages well we're following what's going on with the those been treated right now at different hospitals in moscow and doctors are saying that the rock hopes that they will be ok but it's very hard and very early to say right now because. i repeat the condition of one of those four is to be critical of course of course with their family tonight and with them couldn't give us any more but groan or what actually happened was any more information come to light over the past couple of hours. ok and you mean that's a geisha and continues clearly but actually the picture of what happened is quite clear. to call it for two or four airliner flying from czech republic to moscow can read off the runway at one of more pieces to new cover airport.
1:10 pm
while len deighton and after that. crashed into one of the city's highways and broke into three pieces and almost immediately after that caught fire thirty minutes off to. the incident happened to police fire brigades and ambulances have arrived. this scene and. the four people have been taken to the hospitals and four bodies have been taken away from the scene as far as we know to call the rescue operation is now over and both flight recorders have been discovered and now they've been taking to the special committee that is go into. other wise and maybe they will be some more information later on after they will work with these flight recorders yeah i mean have the investigators said anything so far of care since it's too early days. yet is through
1:11 pm
early and. earlier we've been hearing reports that one of the main causes that is conceded to the investigation committee is considering many causes but one of the main is pilot error but they're right now they're saying that they're considering watch pilot error weather conditions and technical failures as equally possible causes of this incident that happened earlier today ok and i have to add that captain and second pilot were very experienced guys with their fifteen thousand and ten thousands of flights so it's actually very hard to say exactly what happened or of maria thanks for bringing some today with what you know of an appreciative mary for national correspondent we just remind you say if you just joined this four people were killed after
1:12 pm
a plane crash in the sort of moscow's main highway earlier on. the pictures of the devastation you seeing on your screen now you can see the highway. the plane it was a red wings flight from the czech republic to forty five pm moscow time we'll update you as we get more information of course throughout the night this is our duty. if you're from my generation or younger and you were born into the one percent that i have a lot of college debt i sure do you know the deal used to be that you paid a significant amount for education but in turn that gave you a much higher salary later but now the system works in reverse many young americans studied very hard to not make any money at all around nine percent of americans with student loans have defaulted and at least nine but maybe up to eighteen
1:13 pm
percent are ninety days late with their payments given the situation the people at u.c. berkeley were nice enough to give away a million dollars in scholarships for everyone everyone that's an illegal immigrant yeah that's right if you're born in america then pay till you die but jump the border and enjoy the red carpet education treatment the people who will be getting the scholarships are mostly the children of illegal immigrants who spent many of their formative years in america and yeah i could see the logic that could be hard for them to get an education wonder when they aren't citizens but they came into the country illegally it isn't taxpayers jobs to help them but wait berkeley's surprise that institution so i guess they can give out the money to whoever they want whenever they want however they want but berkeley management if you're watching this i would really appreciate if you show some financial mercy to american citizens it isn't like they don't need the help but that's just my opinion .

market. come to. find out what's really happening to the global economy with mike's culture are no holds barred look at the global financial headlines kaiser report. international peace envoy for syria says there are only two directions for the conflict a political process or hell and russia's foreign minister at a meeting with lakhdar brahimi in moscow said the syrian opposition's refusal to talk with the government only paves the way for further bloodshed. following the

talks the. conflict right now is that the opposition is rejecting any compromise that president assad has to go. he's not going anywhere he's protecting his country and moscow says nobody is able to persuade him to change his mind and neither side is willing to put its weapons down if. you know the only alternative is. clearly. on the political process then we have all of us to work says listening for the political process mr brahimi added that this should be a syrian allowed political process which should be based on the agreements reached by world powers in geneva and they include forming a transitional government which could include all sides of the conflict but the opposition is not only unwilling to negotiate with the syrian authorities it's now rejecting direct talks with moscow which has been trying to be
1:17 pm
a mediator and we've heard from the leader of the recently established opposition coalition who demanded moscow to apologize for what she said was support for president assad if an emotional i understand that mr hottie of his probably not very experienced in politics if he's looking to be a serious politician it is in his interests to hear our position from us and not from the media that sometimes distorts information so i'll repeat but we were ready to talk to all opposition forces but we start from the premises that they should not only think about their own ambitions but also the fate of the syrian people and if they think that russia could play a role in the country's tragedy they should meet our representatives without preconditions on notice meanwhile the violence is continuing to ask syria there have been more terrorist attacks the rebels have been also attacking states military air strips of while government troops have been responding with more

shelling. iran's navy is deployed in the strait of hormuz a key shipping route for one fifth the world's oil the military exercises come a growing pressure and sanctions against iran's nuclear program global diplomacy especially psoriasis of a polaroid says the purpose of the exercise is not to show is still a t. but a readiness to defend the country's borders for the past thirty two years or war the west pacific united states is waged a covert war against iran so iran has been preparing itself and demonstrating its nest to defend itself i don't believe that iran would ever take action if we see more naval military exercises right now it's because the media is focusing on iran whereas in fact. earlier this month there was operation lucky mariner with twenty seven countries participating. although a lot of them were of service states and they were all the way in the persian gulf

in iran as territory and the media was silent on this but when the iran demonstrates its readiness to defend its sovereignty and its national interests then there is the media focus on iraq. online forget anonymity there's one place you need id to use the internet much china now where new rules insist every web surfer must use their real name when they go online we're talking about that on our website r.t. dot com if you want to check it out also courting controversy to our first five year legal battle belgian prosecutors are now ready to charge the church of scientology with being a criminal organization going to get back story online from a. spin a turbulent year for russian politics with him a putin's come back to the kremlin met with opposition rallies plus pussy riot some

from his cathedral performance protests on the court case of followed splitting russian society here's how some of the r.t. stuff including me covered it all in twenty twelve and recall it all. presidential election twenty two we had three cameras up on this roof correspondents throughout moscow and i mean you come across lines throughout the night there's a great night was. the real color was right behind us was in it but but so one point when putin came out of so many lights crowds way past the doom of the thousands and thousands of people i suppose so celebrating his victory one of the main points the unprecedented protests that took place up to that election and protest rallies that never really feels like we're actually taking part in the
1:21 pm
event it was during one of the massive boldest rallies in moscow on the square that it really fifty for the first time when i saw the crowd want to see the court right next to ours in another station and i realized how soon was people really turned uncontrollable or was second and helpful things just as easily. really quickly of people trying to get their political point across in the past twelve months. the best way to do that would be a bag on your head and. the one thing that was important to get across covering it is people's political flavors in this country the fact was that what they did was deeply offensive to a huge number of people not something that. looking at the pushy rights case. when they made a press release about its our interview with president putin the first that he's ever given a third inauguration we see dozens and dozens of calls from international media
1:22 pm
representatives and they were all asking us just one question did he say anything about the case nothing was out of this in fact the more challenging it is gauging the conversation would be of course not. the big list in my head i want to hear about his thoughts on the ongoing syrian conflict also whether the polish with the pussy riot punk band was indeed with hindsight may be too heavy and some interesting comments to make about that i would have thought about the russian opposition movement one of our big stories of the year the streets are available for protestors for syria and i think it's good that people conscious about politics well politics is not a big deal among most people here in this country with world we're going to change let only be good for society and i think the authorities reality would relatively well. more memories of twenty twelve coming up over the coming days as well for you but the present headlines making news right now the clock ticking for the us where negotiations in avoiding the so-called fiscal cliff again produced no result this of republicans democrats failed to reach
